Director of Transportation

Summary

This position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and maintaining economical and efficient transportation services for the company. This position is also responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day activities of the Transportation Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all safety programs and transportation records for the company
  • Responsible for maintaining all inventories and new purchases for the company
  • Provide support for our account executives, production managers, general foreman’s and operation managers.
  • Develop manpower and transportation plans
  • Responsible for transportation analysis and savings/cost opportunity analysis and the implementation and management of cost analysis measures Plan and monitor budgets
  • Work with ship site location managers to improve operational and performance metrics Provide information, recommendations, and coordinate project implementation for transportation and logistics cost reduction opportunities
  • Identify mode optimization opportunities
  • Provide guidance on import/export Freight Classification, Harmonization Coding, Country of Origin, NAFTA Certificates of Origin, and C-TPAT management and compliance
  • Monitor and provide summary reporting on inbound and outbound core carrier compliance, low cost and lane award carrier compliance
  • Manage air and expedite freight expenditures through adherence of corporate approval process
  • Provide projections for inbound and outbound freight expenses by month and quarter
  • Ensure accurate forecasting of volume projections to core carriers
  • Ensure timely submission of operation templates from carriers including a carrier scorecard, monthly reporting, and operational excellence projects
  • Disseminate monthly carrier scorecards and monitor overall performance against goals and expectations

Required Qualifications:

  • BA Degree
  • 5+ years experience in transportation/logistics
  • Great carrier and broker contacts
  • Experience with LTL, FTL, Air, Small Package, and/or Ocean transportation
  • Experience with air-freight and critical delivery situations a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, extremely detailed and accurate
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Creative problem solver
  • Strong computer and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure with tight deadlines and be available after normal business hours to get the job done
